Mounting costs adds pressure to many NI Business

Over the last few years many businesses have had to tackle many challenging factors within their supply chain from Brexit, Covid 19, Ukrainian war and now the dramatic increase in energy and fuel costs. These mounting business costs are causing significant concern for NI traders as prices for raw materials increase resulting in business owners with no choice but to push their prices higher.

With several businesses being reported to have planned rate increases in the next three months, particular the manufacturing industries due to raw material costs and the growing pressure to increase wages in 2022 to help with their business growth, to support the significant difficulties in recruiting and retaining staff.

With imports and exports increasing in Q1 figures for sales and exports showing to be improving are positive factors for many businesses. However around 29% of businesses still find the new trading conditions from Brexit and Covid 19 challenging and have outsourced for external support with dealing with the new trade arrangements and requirements.  All of which add further costs to their supply chain.
